Awakening

AWAKENING

This is a story of beginning, not the very beginning, but that exact moment when illumination brings the first understanding.  A realization of awakening.  At this juncture, one understands what has gone before and sees what lies immediately ahead.  In its stillness great movement is perceived. Now reflect. Now it is time to go.

AWAKENING is included in the

Trees, Too

A moment. Remembered are precious little thoughts and human emotion.

In each moment, one understands what has gone before, and gets a view of what lies immediately ahead.

Photographer’s Advance Winter 2011

Travel, then ten days tucked away in the forest with only camera gear.  No distractions,

commitments, or appointments.  Free to photograph.

In minus 12-degree weather with 24 inches of fresh snow, new lake, stream, river, and

forest opportunities present themselves.  All the while there is a constant vigil for lurking

danger and to keeping warm.

Morning coffee with Old Bachelor’s Jam on toast, farm eggs scrambled, bakery fresh

cinnamon rolls. An evening fire charmed meals of Mediterranean Chicken, Carne Asada,

and freshly made peach pie accompanied with, lively conversation, thoughtful

contemplation, and aged friends such as Merlot and Glelnlivet.

Good friends, fun photographing. Thoughts of knitting, canning, new life. A kiss for a hat.

Call waiting. An ever-present canine. Sleds, snow shoes, snow shovels.

And all to soon a sweet goodbye.

Congratulations Oscar!

Katy Studer has proudly announced that Oscar has been selected as Mr. February for

the German Shorthair Pointer Club of Idaho.  Oscar is a well mannered friend and hunter and

can be introspective as well as playful and happy.  Congratulations for this wonderful

distinction.

This article would not be complete without showing two additional German Shorthair Pointers I

adore.  We miss the Lucy, who went to heaven in March, while Birgit continues to be a

wonderful friend and great hunter.

Best wishes to all for a most wonderful 2011.

Sincerely,

Coral DeWilliam Studer

Merry Christmas

Mountains

After watching the dreary sky for four days, a hole finally opened up.  I sped down to the airport where I finally met pilot Nathaniel.  I had called him too many times to see if conditions were right for flying and to see if there was any sun hitting the earth ANYWHERE! To my delight, Nathaniel was knowledgeable, safe, and agreeable to flying with the window open while looking for just the perfect picture.

I had a great time being in a Cessna 172 for the first time in many years and was only nervous that I would drop my camera (remembering my car/glasses incident three weeks ago).

It has been said “When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”  This is so very true.  It is an understatement to say it was a great flight, even if I did not get a single picture, it would have been a great adventure.

The quote has often been attributed to Leonardo daVinci, with some scholars questioning.  Think about it, Leonardo was contemplating and testing flight, a reasonable person would be scared to death.  Ask the Wright brothers.

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the flight; also see the “Mountains” Portfolio on my web page.

Winter Flirts with Fall

The first snow of winter delicately converses with the last flourish of fall color.
